One day I’ll get professional headshots. In the meantime, even with too much filter, here I am!
Hi Friends!
I’m so happy you stopped by! I’m Heather, founder of Letterworx, Inc. I’m a self-proclaimed typography geek, paper and pen fiend, word fanatic and over-user of emoji’s. I can’t help it!
I am a not a Colorado Native, but I have been rooted in Northern Colorado since 2005. I’m happiest spending time with my family and friends, laughing ‘till it hurts, and creating! I love good, authentic Mexican food, good music, anywhere with a beach, sunshine and giant-breed pooches! I live with my hubby/best friend/high school sweetheart and our teenage daughter (she’s great!), along with our 2 dogs and backyard flock of chickens. We work hard and we play harder, always with a full plate and always up to something!
I think calligraphy started for me much younger than I had probably realized. My dad grew up in Catholic school and the nuns who were his teachers were sticklers for perfect penmanship. He passed that trait down to my sister & I when we were in elementary school. I remember plenty of times when I was very young (before tablets & computers were prevalent in classrooms) that he would look at a final draft I was ready to turn in, not like how it looked, and make me completely rewrite it. As a child, I thought that was horrible, but as a grown 40-something woman, I can appreciate the discipline he was trying to instill in us to always turn in the best representations of ourselves. I’m grateful for those re-writes at this stage of my life! I was fortunate in high school to have an incredible art teacher (shout out to Ms. Avery!) who had a profound influence on my artistic life. She was a talented artist and an amazing woman. I took as many classes as she offered in my 4 years, which ultimately led me to a private (now defunct) art school in Long Beach, California where I majored in Graphic Design. While I can draw and paint, I have always been drawn to lettering. I did ultimately drop out of that school after my first year but not before I took a typography class, which is the study of fonts & lettering (not to be confused with topography, which is the study of maps). I completely geeked out in that class. I love the thought behind the structure of the letters and how they’re put together. That was my favorite class!
I love to write - the flow of the ink, the shapes of the letters, the composition of a particular piece, the scratch of a nib on paper. Writing is my happy place. I love all of it, and I hope to get the chance to write for you!
Thank you for allowing me to share this space with you!
